Posters of Tadanori Yokoo
This exhibition is devoted to over half a century of the career of Tadanori Yokoo, a Japanese graphic designer and painter (b. 1936, Hyogo prefecture).
In 1960s Yokoo produced unique graphic works with full of distinctive design sensibility, which drew young people’s attention and made him a hero of the pop culture. Ever since he has energetically been producing numerous works which reflect the social conditions of postwar Japan, using a variety of media such as posters, book designs, prints, paintings and films.
The exhibition focuses on Yokoo’s poster work which was the starting point of his career and has been the heart of his creative activity, by presenting approximately 400 posters, selected from the huge collection of the National Museum of Art, Osaka and also from the artist’s private collection.
