Katsumi Komagata: little design

Sep. 5 - Nov. 3, 2020

Detail

Komagata Katsumi (1953-, b. Shizuoka) is a bookmaker/designer famous for picture books such as “Little Eyes” and “Little Tree”.
After working as a graphic designer for the CBS headquarters and the Schecter Group in the U.S. in his 20s, Komagata returned to Japan and designed record jackets for Japanese bands and invitations for renowned fashion brands. In addition to making picture books, which he started with the birth of his daughter, he is now focusing on workshop activities abroad.
This exhibition comprises approximately 300 works by Komagata which span the full arc of his career, including experimental protopypes from his U.S. years, design works related to music and fashion, and idea sketches which show the process of creating picture books. Komagata has always cherished "little things". We hope you enjoy his works which have a size that fits your hand and were created from the closeness of whispering with a small number of people.
