MOMOSE Hisashi 1970-2010

Date:
Sep.11,2010(Sat) - Nov.23,2010(Tue)

Detail

Momose Hisashi (born in 1944 in Hokkaido prefecture) is now based in Morioka city, Iwate prefecture and has been working consistently on the theme of color gradations for over 40 years. From the 1970's to the 80's he produced unique prints composed of color gradations by serigraph and neco print. In the 80's he started a different series of works; pasting hand-made papers and metal leaves on a canvas surface in accordance with subtle color changes. His unique works, described as "prints without screen stencils" or "unpainted pictures", have received high appreciation here and abroad. His further pursuit of the creative possibility of color expression currently expands to site-specific installations with multiple layers of nets painted in fluorescent colors. This retrospective exhibition reviews the development of his exceptionally rich and expressive art by displaying as many as 100 works, including the outstanding large-scaled works after the 70's when his pursuit of the gradational representation began.
