Misawa Atsuhiko (1961- , b. Kyoto prefecture), one of the most acclaimed contemporary sculptors in Japan, carves various kinds of animals out of camphor tree. He's been creating this "Animals" series since 2000 and has won art prizes. His life-sized animal sculptures with traces of the chisel and delicately painted features have an overwhelming presence and are loved by people of all ages.
 This exhibition presents Misawa's 60 sculptures including the most recent ones along with paintings, drawings and small clay works of animals. The early works which he created before starting the "Animals" are also exhibited only at Iwate venue.
